Calvary-Roseville United Methodist Church (CRUMC) is multi-racial, multi-cultural and multi-national community of Christian believers. We are committed to worshipping and serving Jesus Christ.
As a United Methodist congregation, we join with like-minded Christians in spreading the good news of Jesus Christ in our community and around the world. Jesus Christ reached out to people of all ages and backgrounds. At Calvary-Roseville we also strive to follow Christ's example by opening our hearts, our doors and our minds to all people.
There is a place for everyone to study the Scriptures, have fellowship together, and minister to with others through many Christian service opportunities done in the name of Jesus Christ.
We want you to share in the blessings, which God gives so graciously to all persons. Come, share your story and hear the stories of others in whose lives Christ is making a difference.
Mission Statement
Calvary-Roseville United Methodist Church is a growing, caring, nurturing and witnessing fellowship of diverse people inspired by the Resurrection Story to make disciples of all who consciously or unconsciously need to grow in Christ.
With special emphasis on Evangelism and Christian Stewardship, we shall respond to the needs of persons through worship, prayer, Bible and other life-related studies; through counseling and networking with other community agencies and groups.
Led by the Holy Spirit, we shall be a beacon of hope within the community for those who hurt.
Our History
The first Worship Service of the merged congregations of Calvary and Roseville U.M. churches was held in the Calvary Sanctuary on June 2, 1974. Each congregation had previously been in service to its community for more than a century, had a membership in excess of 1,700 at one period of its history, had a strong musical ministry, and was served by some of the most distinguished Preachers in the Conference.
At Calvary the list included Dr. Fred Clare Baldwin who served for 19 year, then later following his retirement from active ministry he served as an Associate Pastor. Two other preachers, Drs. Dorr F. Diefendorf and Harry Milton Taylor later became Professors at Drew Theological Seminary.
Roseville’s line of distinguished Preachers included Dr. Thomas I. Coultas whose term produced a rapid growth in membership, in Sunday school, in Youth activities and in generating funds to erect an Educational wing. Dr. Karl K. Quimby was described as an excellent preacher who excelled in pastoral activities and executive tasks.
Throughout its history, the Roseville Church produced 10 young people from its membership who entered the Pastoral Ministry.
The Rev. Dr. Mark Odenwelder, Pastor of Calvary UMC from 1968 became the first Pastor of this merged congregation. In 1980, the Rev. Frank Ostertag succeeded him who served for a decade. During this period Calvary-Roseville was challenged to respond to some of the very community changes which had impacted the former Roseville congregation. Pastor Geo. N. Frederick served from 1990 to 2008. During his sojourn he presided over the rebuilding of the new Calvary-Roseville church home which opened in 1995 following a fire which destroyed the century old Neo-Byzantine structure in 1992.
A warm welcome awaits you at CRUMC.
